What makes me want to write about this tragic story is the order issued by authorities to first try and catch these beautiful creatures without killing them. You get the feeling that the people in India truly understand the problem of coexisting with our wild animal neighbors. If such a tragedy fell upon our land there would be no acknowledgement of an animal's rights. The creature would be killed on site. Every year hundreds of life forms ranging from plant life to mammals face extinction due to human kinds actions upon Mother Earth. In the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve for example, the population of the tiger fell over 58% from 2004 to the present. However, regions like India are trying to find ways to adapt and live with their tiger residents. This is best illustrated in a quote issued by K.K. Singh, a senior forest official at the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve: "It is a real struggle between the man and animal in which we have to save both of them." Finally, I'm interested to know your opinion. Do you think India has it right by trying to save both the tiger and her people?
Of course I do. It's about time that someone, somewhere realizes everything we could lose. The problems we face today are the problems humanity has created over and over and over again...old song, but it's still important that we are the only ones to blame.
ReplyDeleteIt's just so sad that we always wait until the situation is dire before realizing that change is necessary.
I think India has it right....
