Norway is set to challenge the European Union should a ban on imports of seal products including fur be enacted. They argue that banning seal products will hinder their right to legally harvest sustainable resources since seals are not considered endangered. Other countries including Canada who practice yearly seal slaughters also side with Norway. However, the inhumane treatment of the seals are finally being recognized thanks to evidence gathered by activist groups proving seal pups are brutally murdered and sometimes skinned alive. Russia already imposed a ban on seal hunting and Vladimir Putin has called the practice a "bloody industry." Pressure from several countries opposing seal hunting practices are also contributing to the European Union's considerations.

I fear that it is too late to stop this year's seal massacre but if pressure continues, this may very well be the last...
