Welcome

Welcome to the Earth Chatter Archive page.

Earth Chatter is my personal blog where I write about animal and environmental issues happening throughout the planet. To eliminate congestion and confusion, I created this site to store older posts. In a nut-shell, this is the Earth Chatter Library. Feel free to look around.

Ban on Seal Hunting is on the Horizon

Baby seals can breathe a sigh of relief if just for a moment because today two important symbols of support emerged. First, the European Union united together and passed text which would ban the sale to seal products in the EU. A vote finalizing the ban will take place within the first week of May. If successful, this move will significantly diminish the seal product market. This is great news for the seals because without demand, there would be no more suffering and death. Second, another celebrity stepped up and voiced his opposition to the seal hunts - Paul McCartney. He signed his name to the online petition bansealtrade.eu which is sponsored by the Humane Society UK and Respect for Animals organizations. Millions of people have signed their names to petitions and in doing so, voiced their support for the end of seal hunting and the start of seal protecting. Hopefully, the EU will take all this into consideration when making the right decision to ban seal hunts for good.

By the way, to put things into perspective and further express the importance of continuing our support to ban seal hunting, the Canadian Seal Hunt is the largest mass murder of marine mammals on Planet Earth. In the past four years, over 1,000,000 seal pups have been clubbed, shot, skinned alive, tortured, and finally killed.
