Earth Chatter is my personal blog where I write about animal and environmental issues happening throughout the planet. To eliminate congestion and confusion, I created this site to store older posts. In a nut-shell, this is the Earth Chatter Library. Feel free to look around.

Air pollution linked to appendicitis

An article published today in the Canadian Medical Association Journal details the possible link between air pollution and cases of appendicitis. The research is still in its early stages but there appears to be a correlation in the number of increased cases of the medical condition when levels of pollutants in the air are high. In addition, historical evidence shows that appendicitis increased in frequency during the industrial age and then declined around the time of the Clean Air Act and air quality regulations. Though the authors of the article admit that much is still to be discovered, this revelation can not be ignored. Cases of asthma and respiratory diseases have already been directly linked to air pollution. It is time to take the seriousness of this problem to the next level for the benefit of public health and safety.
