Welcome

Welcome to the Earth Chatter Archive page.

Earth Chatter is my personal blog where I write about animal and environmental issues happening throughout the planet. To eliminate congestion and confusion, I created this site to store older posts. In a nut-shell, this is the Earth Chatter Library. Feel free to look around.

Our Old Growth Forests Are Dying

The US Geological Survey and participating universities published in the Science journal their findings that the mortality rate of trees in our old growth forests throughout the west have significantly increased while re-growth decreased. Researchers ruled out old age, disease, and other common causes, and have found a correlation between death rates and higher temperatures in the region. Though I am not a huge supporter of blaming every environmental problem on global warming, this finding is scary. Our planet's trees provide us so much in the way of survival; for example: shelter, food, fuel, and oxygen. Hopefully researchers will find a way of nourishing the soils of the region in such a way as to promote regrowth and life to our forests. In the mean time, I would suggest doing our part by looking into planting a seedling or two in our own communities. Doing so would not only provide Mother Earth with another tree to nurture but would also help us. I know it is an old cliche but sometimes it's best to "THINK GLOBALLY...ACT LOCALLY".
